Bleu Perez represented Guam in the 100 Meter Preliminary Round at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Perez ran a season-best time of 11.48 seconds and finished sixth out of seven runners in his Heat and 22 out of 29 runners overall in the Preliminary Round. The top nine runners in the Preliminary Round advanced to the First Round Heats.
“My race felt pretty good. I just had to remember to stay patient and go through each of the phases of my run. So, technically, it was good,” said Perez
“I feel that the time could have been faster but this could be due to the heat at the stadium. I was almost exhausted by the time the 100m Prelims started due to the extreme heat. I was already pouring sweat during the light jog portion of my warmup. Even with proper hydration the day of and prior, it still wasn’t enough. Good race, nonetheless.”
Perez has enjoyed his first time representing Guam at the IAAF World Athletics Championships.
“My experience at the World championships was amazing. From going to a new country to seeing the beautiful track, it was all an awesome experience. I got to see and meet some of my idols as well. One of them was USA’s Mike Rodgers. Him and his coach were very encouraging and allowed me to join in on a few block starts a few days before mike and I’s 100m races. It was definitely an experience. There’s still a lot more to see since the competition has only begun. So, I’m definitely gonna make the most of it. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I owe it all to my coaches, friends, family, and federation for supporting me.”
